Why did the bearded man plan to kill the king and how?

The bearded man revealed that he was the enemy of the king because he killed his brother and seized all his property. So the bearded man took the opportunity to take revenge on him. He planned to kill him on his way back home. But later he was caught by the bodyguard of the king who wounded him.

Here, in the poem “ The rebel”, the poet, D.J Enright expresses the rebel like an introvert. He stays at home and prefers to read a books when he find everyone is going to attend the meeting. And on the other hand, when the others stays at home and reads some books, he prefer to attend the meeting the rebel always follows the opposite path of the others.
