Foreshadowing: Hinting at future events (Can be indirect or direct)
Symbolism: The concept of things representing other things

Metaphor: A comparison between two unlike things without using like or as
Simile: The comparison between two similar things using like and or as
Allegory: A story inside of a story

Diction: A writer's/speakers vocab choices and expression in a piece of writing like a story and or poem
Dynamic vs static characters: A static character goes through little to no change at all. Dynamic characters goes through significant change throughout the story.

Comma splice: When a comma is used to link two independent clauses together
Run on: When more than one independent clause is jammed together next to another independent clause with no proper punctuation
Sentence Fragment: When an incomplete sentence is punctuated as if it was a complete sentence
"I know that..." test: When "I know that..." is placed in front of a phrase, clause, or unknown chunk of words to determine if it makes sense and is a complete thought.

Narrative: A spoken or written account of connected events
Non-Fiction: REAL writing (based on facts, real events, real people, etc)

Clauses: A chunk of words that includes a subject (noun, pronoun, implied you) and a predicate (verb) that can stand alone as part of a sentence or as a sentence itself
Independent/main clause: A clause that includes a subject and predicate that CAN stand alone as a sentence
Dependent/subordinate clause: A clause that includes a subject and predicate that CANNOT stand alone as a sentence
Simple: Includes an independent clause
Compound: Includes two independent clauses
Complex: Includes 1 independent clause, 1 dependent clause, 1 independent clause, subordinating conjunction, dependent clause
Complex-Compound: Independent clause, Independent clause, dependent clause (ORDER CAN VARY!!!!)

Hyperbole: An exaggeration that is obvious, extreme, and intentional

Motif: A distinctive repeating feature and or idea.

Persona: The aspect of someone's character that is presented to or perceived by others.
Repetition: A word and or phrase used multiple times in a text, for the purpose of emphasizing an emotion and or idea.
