A series of events in a story.
What is Plot?
The opposite of what you expect to happen actually happens; an unexpected outcome
What is Irony?
The main character who generally causes the problem
What is an Antagonist?
exaggerates the meaning of the sentence
What is Hyperbole?
The method the author uses to influence the reader’s opinion of the character
What is Direct Characterization?
The 5 parts of the plot diagram
What are Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution?
Feeling or atmosphere that the author creates for the reader.
What is the mood?
The main character who overcomes obstacles and solves the problem
What is a Protagonist?
a phrase describing something as something that is not in reality-compares two things symbolically.
What is a Metaphor?
A character that changes throughout the story
What is a Dynamic Character?
the high point or turning point of a story
What is the Climax?
A struggle between two opposing forces.
What is Conflict?
When the reader gains access to information about a character by revisiting past events/experiences.
What is Flashback?
a phrase that bears no literal meaning to the situation
What is Idiom?
A character that remains the same throughout the story
What is a Static Character?
the beginning of the story: point in the story where we are introduced to characters, setting, and conflict/problem
What is the Exposition?
The story is told by the narrator who is NOT the character in the story. The narrator uses pronouns such as he, she, it, they, and them!
What is 3rd person POV?
Clues are given by the author to suggest events that will occur later.
What is Foreshadowing?
is used to express an abstract idea using an item or words
What is Symbolism?
the individual qualities or attributes that make up a person's overall character.
What is Character Traits?
details leading to the solving of the problem
What is the Falling Action?
