I'm not here for a day or two... I'm on vacation.... who do you go to with issues?
Can it wait? Is something broken, not working properly, you need an answer to a question re: insurance, time cards, etc.... write a note and put it in my inbox or email me and it can be dealt with when I get back. If it's licensing..CALL ME! If you are running late, text or call Michelle and your room teacher and then let me know that you were late when I get back. If I'm on vacation, Michelle is your go to.

It is morning, you are in the classroom, a parent and child enter..... what do you do? Hint: "Cheers"
Greet them with a big happy voice and say the child's name, then Stop what you are doing, get up and go over to say your good mornings. If you are involved with a child, tell them to hold on because you need to go say your good mornings and then you will be back

You are given something by a parent (it may even be an envelope with some other employee name on it)...what do you do with it?
Give it me! Put it in my inbox or on my desk! This helps ensure that nothing gets lost in translation.

There are new floating teacher schedules. If someone is out... what happens? What's the first thing you can count on not getting?
Miss Norilyn will be in the class and Monica (or Amanda or Cynthia) will be the one to break you all. Prep time. Prep time is what you wind up losing. Do not count on Prep time, count on nap time! Prep time is a luxury. Depending on staff schedules and ratio, you might be able to get a make up during the week. When it says that Monica or Norilyn is in your classroom for extra help. That does not mean it's prep time for you. It means you now have an additional qualified teacher in the classroom, the ratio just turned into the best ever!

You are in the playground along with another teacher.... what/where should each of you be doing? Bonus: You are by yourself in the playground, where/what should you be doing?
Each teacher should be where the kids are... typically on each end of the playground. Be involved! Get kids active! Take out the music, take out the V blocks, waffle blocks, etc... and speaking of taking items out of the storage room to use... PUT IT BACK WHERE IT GOES. Kim took a lot of time and a great job, re organizing. It NEEDS TO STAY THAT WAY. BOTTOM LINE, no exceptions. That might mean you need to take a few extra moments to put it away properly. Bonus: position yourself where you can see all of the kids and your back is not facing the building

You are asked a question by a current parent, past parent, prospective parent (anyone, really) about kids in classes, how many in each class, are we full, is there space, how many teachers are there, When is tennis, is yoga still going... What is your answer?
Refer them to me! It is okay to say "That's something you need to ask Rebecca," "I'm not at liberty to say, you'll have to email Rebecca" You can tell them to email me if they signed up for a lesson! You can also tell them about how their child is doing! That's extremely important. Any one of you can tell a parent what their child did that day. If parents are asking you questions about their child, any one of you can answer. "He really enjoyed reading books while sitting in a cardboard box, he was using it as his firetruck!, I do know that he did have a hard time keeping his hands to himself during outside time today. He would go up to each child and take their shovel away. Miss ____ did talk to him about it (say what was discussed) and after the third time of redirecting he had to sit and and miss out on some fun time. I just wanted to let you know about that situation, but other than that he seemed to be having a great day!" However if it is due to something more serious, then the Head Teacher and I are the ones to have these discussions with parents. Monkey room: only Michelle and Ariana can tell parents if a child is ready for any changes in diet or sleeping schedules. Chameleon room: only Nicole and Amy are the ones to discuss potty training Tigers: Only Lauren and Kim are the ones to discuss Kindergarten readiness

Dispose of diapers in diaper pail only 4. Wash hands Bonus: 1. Always keep a hand on the child (so it doesn't fall off or stand up and hit head or touch creams on diaper shelves) 2. You need a stapler quickly or tape or a paint jug or even need to make a copy or need to know if someone is signed up for a lesson, do you ask Cynthia and Marianne?
No! They are not EEC admins, they are the office staff for the whole Rec. It is not their job to do these little tasks for you! You do it yourself and/or ask me! They'll do it because the are super nice, but they've got a ton of other issues to contend with and other people/supervisors to serve What if numbers will not permit you to leave the classroom? Then you get to wait to do these tasks! Now if you need the thermometer, go ahead and ask them!

Sing the line up song
Line on up, line on up. Asparagus unite, string beans stand upright

Your phone rings,pings,sings... what do you do?
Check to see if it's work related, if so then answer it provided you are not with a parent. If there is a parent around, say excuse me, it's Miss Rebecca and try to go in the kitchen. If it's NOT work related, DON'T ANSWER! even if it's a text! If you are on your break or lunch, then it's okay, just be sure you are invisible to the public. Go in the kitchen, in my office, break room or go outside around the building (where the mountain lion sign is). If it is a call you need to take, then you already notified me that you are expecting a call and then the other teachers so they know to step it up a notch while you excuse yourself to the kitchen. If you are in the public eye then it looks like you are not doing your job and word of mouth travels pretty fast around here. Being on your phone is unacceptable unless... it's work related and/or I okayed a personal communication

Several answers because it depends on the situation... however, we want a yes environment... Bonus: Lock up the bikes EVERY NIGHT Sweep when it becomes unsafe and speaking of yes environments... if one walks into a room and sees chairs stacked and/or on the table what message does that convey? Ok folks... I know you take pictures with your phones! What are you supposed to do with them?
Only pictures that I take will be used for the yearbooks due to other images from phones not having good quality when I go to print. However, I know you still take pictures so.... Email or text them to me ASAP. If they are deemed good quality, then I will save them for the yearbook. If they are not, then I email or text them to the parents. If you need them printed out for a project, that works! Due to these children being under 18 and in our care, you do not have the right to take pictures for your personal use. This means you may not post on facebook (or where ever) or show your friends, that's right, you may not show others. Which is why you shouldn't be the ones taking pictures, that's for me to do. There are several of these parents who specifically decline our release form.... so don't take pics!

Proper teacher to child conversations regarding conflict: You are at the loft and you see another child across the room about to throw a toy at someone.... what do you do? Bonus: Do you make a child say sorry? Why/why not?
You may say the child's name loudly to get their attention and say stop, but then you...... must get up, go over and bend down(not over) to talk to them. Do not yell across the space. Bonus: No. Because a child might not be sorry. Upon speaking with the children involved in the conflict, you can ask "Look at her face, she is crying. Do you think she is happy or sad? why is she sad? she is sad because you made a yucky choice and took her toy. We don't take toys from friends. Do you want to say anything to her? (if yes, then ask what would you like to say; if no, then you say, I'm sorry he took your toy and made you sad). You can even ask "what can you do to make her feel better?" and that's when you can also suggest" you can give her a hug, you can help build the tower with her, you can dig a hole together"

What is the dress code?
M-F you are required to wear staff shirts and jackets only. If you can wear long sleeves UNDER your shirt. Fridays are dress down days, but keep it appropriate (no cleavage, bra straps, tattoos, open toed shoes, short shorts, etc.) Must participate in theme days as best you can.... depending on what it is, make an art project out of it with the kids!

What food/s are not allowed in the Monkey room?
Honey is not allowed. Peanut Butter and Strawberries are frowned upon due to high allergens, however if they or you have them be sure to clean up/wash/disinfect IMMEDIATELY as to not expose others. Candy/sugar/chocolate- why promote unhealthy eating habits? and chocolate has caffeine in it... let's shy away from giving these.

Nap Time: What happens during nap? Bonus: Mainly for the Tigers class, if a child doesn't nap what happens?
All lights/skylight/blinds closed Nap time music played, more loudly than softly as to block out what you will be doing Rub backs... down stimulates a calming effect while up released awake endorphins After you have tended to each child, get yo cleanin' on! if that is done, use it as prep time! Prep art projects by cutting out shapes needed for art, do curriculum calendars Bonus: If a child doesn't rest. After everyone else basically nods off, give them a special nap time toy....such as books, sensory balls, micro machines Going back to cleaning: when and what needs to be cleaned? You are in the classroom when the Fire alarm goes off.... what do you do, what is the protocol for each class? (Who does what and where do you go)
Gather the children in the designated area in each classroom. Tigers: meet by the cubbies and teachers grab the first aid backpack, sign in/out, daily roster Chameleons: meet by the cubbies and teachers grab their emergency backpack, sign in/out, daily roster Monkeys: put the kids in the emergency cribs, grab sign in/out and exit through the back door Floating teachers/extra help: go to Monkeys class Rebecca: Sweep the classes to make sure everyone evacuated Exit through the playground and walk to the fence dividing the sports court and big playground. Line up the kids and sit them down! Keep them occupied by singing songs and story time

Proper conversations: What are unacceptable and acceptable conversations to have at work?
Eyes and Ears are everywhere! Personal discussions shouldn't really be happening. That should be saved for break time/after hours. I know it's hard because you are here everyday all day, but your job is to be with these kids, not socialize. Talk about Boyfriends, clubbin', going out, hating something.. not appropriate. While outside or inside, you guys shouldn't be clumped together chatting away! And while across the room, you definitely shouldn't be having discussions! But personal convos happen as does having to talk about a specific person/situation so... Spell things out, even a kids last name or initials instead of first name because now they are aware. Be aware of what you are saying and how you say it, be appropriate and talk quietly!

When putting a child in a crib what do you need to remember?
ALWAYS put the child on their back. If they roll over on their own, then they roll over on their own, but you put them down on their backs. Nothing is allowed in the cribs! No bumpers, blankets, or toys. If a child does have something, then it needs to be in written form from the parent.
