I was scheduled for a shift, and I can't work it. Eh, I just won't show up. They will figure something out, right?
No. If you are scheduled to work, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find coverage for your shift. A missed shift will result in a written warning during the first offense followed by employment termination on the second offense.

They said they're fine, so they are definitely fine, right?
Probably not. People may not tell you the full extent of how they are feeling for whatever reason. If they seem unlike themselves, don't let it go.

A program participant needs to use the bathroom, what do I do?
Have the participant take a buddy with them, ?along with one staff member. The restrooms are open?to the community, so children must be supervised and ?staff must be an earshot away at all times.

I am hungry! Can I eat right now?
Breaks and lunch times are defined by Waterfront and Summer Camp Supervisors. ?A 30 minute unpaid break is issued to staff who work more than 6 hours. It is strongly ?recommended that each staff brings lunch to work and a frozen water bottle. Camp Staff: You must supervise meal times by eating with your campers!

Those kids are running down and jumping off the dock, is that alright??
No, use your common sense. ?If what campers are doing on the beach doesn’t look safe, ?it probably isn’t. You control the environment so blow the whistle?and stop the dangerous activity.

I’m pretty bored standing around right now, I’m going to go talk to the other staff! That's totally okay, right?
Don’t do that. ?The specific stations we have ?are there for a reason. ?Safety is a major concern, so remember to keep ?your eyes on the water.?Remember PERCEPTION IS EVERYTHING, so even if?you did it just one time and got caught, they will think ?you do it all the time!

My alarm didn’t go off and I just needed a coffee today. Can I come in late for my shift?
All staff are required to be ON TIME for their shift. What does on time ?mean??15 minutes early is on time. Therefore, when your shift starts at 1pm, ?you will be in place once your shift begins.??Cannot make your shift because of illness? Call your supervisor by 8am. Excessive absenteeism or tardiness can result in loss of summer position.

It’s a pretty hot day, but I’ve already gotten her water three times. ?Isn’t that enough?
Evaluate the situation. Heat can take a large toll on people, ?especially if they are active. If they seem down and constantly ?thirsty, sit them down in shade and ask how they are feeling. ?Be mindful some people will never admit this.
300
This staff is awesome, can we all hang out outside of work?
Yes and no. Regardless of what happens, ?it should never be spoken of at work.

Nice! It’s beach check. Time for a break, so I can check my cell phone, right?!
Beach check is a very important time for checking in with ?your campers and taking head counts. ?Do not go anywhere or let your campers go anywhere until ?you have everyone in your group accounted for.

What does it mean to be an exemplary Sharon Employee?
Be in the present. You should want to be here everyday.?You are responsible for a large group of children and adults IN and AROUND ?open water, so being alert is essential. Camp staff, being at the lake is NOT ?break time.??Be open-minded when different situations present themselves, ?hear both sides of the story, and work together with the staff around you. ?We want all of you to step up and help everyone out, as all of you can provide ?something to make the patrons and even yourselves happy and relaxed.? You aren’t just an employee here, but also a role model. ??The goal should be for visitors to go home everyday telling them how Impressed they are with attentiveness and kindness of our staff. BE FUN- GIVE FUN- HAVE FUN--- EVERYDAY!

It's 7:45pm. It's safe to put all of our emergency equipment away, right? We're only open for 15 more minutes.
Guards are not to put any equipment away before 8:00 pm. You cannot leave your area unsupervised to return equipment if people are still in the water. You are responsible for their lives until the Beach closes.
