What is temperature?

The measurement of heat in an object.

100

What is evaporation?

evaporation: when water on the ground turns into water vapor and goes into the air.

100

What is migration?

The seasonal movement of a group of animals from one area to another.

100

What is hibernation?

when an animal is in a season-long state of sleep

200

Name animals and plants you would find in an environment that has very high temperatures.

Desert Fox, cactus, camel, coyote, brittlebush, (desert animals)
200

What stages of the water cycle is evaporation in-between?

collection and condensation

200

Why do animals migrate?

Animals migrate for survival: to find better sources of food, water, or shelter.

200

Why do animals hibernate?

Animals hibernate to survive low temperature. (winter weather)

300

How do high temperatures affect the water cycle?

as air temperature increases, evaporation increases.

300

Explain how temperature affects the water cycle.

higher temperature = more evaporation
higher temperature = more condensation

300

migration is an animal's reaction to...

An animals reaction to change in its environment

300

A hibernating animal has internal body controls that prevent its body ______ from falling too low in the winter.

temperature.
A hibernating animal has internal body controls that prevent its body temperature from falling too low in the winter.

400

Draw an environment with a low temperature.

snow, ice, sleet, cold, animals hibernating, animals with lots of fur.

400

Draw how temperature affects, or drives, the water cycle.

drawing must have the sun, then collected water, evaporation, condensation, and precipitation in the correct order
400

What kind of changes in an environment causes an animal to migrate?

change in temperature: if an environment gets too hot or too cold for the animal to live in anymore.
change in water cycle: if an environment loses so much water or food that an animal cannot survive there anymore.

400

Draw how temperature affects hibernation.

(drawing) include low temperature of winter season, and regulating internal body temperature from getting too cold

500

Explain why temperature causes migration and hibernation.

migration: temperature affects the water cycle - animals migrate to find water. temperature affects whether an animal can survive in that environment or not - animals migrate to find a temperature that suits their needs.
hibernation: many animals must adapt to low temperatures to survive, so they hibernate. While in hibernation, animals regulate their own body temperature so they do not get too cold.

500

Why is the water cycle important to an environment?

(possible points)
It regulates the amount of water plants and animals take in.
It controls precipitation, which plants and animals need to survive.
It also controls how much collected water is on the ground - deserts need dry grounds to survive while swamps need wet grounds to survive.

500

Explain why an increase in temperature causes Elephants in Africa to migrate.

(possible points)
An increase in temperature means an increase in evaporation.
It also means an increase in condensation.
Therefore, I think elephants migrate when the temperature increases because they are looking for a new place that has collected water for survival.

500

Explain why some animals hibernate while others do not.

(possible points)
Hibernation
is an adaptation some animals have to survive the winter.
Other animals have different adaptations.
For instance, bears hibernate, but horses grow a winter coat to keep them safe from the low temperature.
