The crust and the upper mantle make up the

Lithosphere

100

What is the most abundant element found on Earth

Carbon

  1. Explain how human activity contributes to excess Carbon in the atmosphere?

Burning fossil fuels and deforestation destroys carbon sinks, releasing more carbon dioxide.

200

What type of bond shares electrons?

Covalent bonds

200

The outer core is made entirely of _______ _______

molten metal

200

Tectonic plates move due to the convection currents in the

300

Organic compounds always contain which element?

Carbon

300

The main greenhouse gases include methane and ___________ ___________.

carbon dioxide

300

Which boundary type creates earthquakes?

Transform

300

Provide at least one example of carbon sinks

Limestone

Forests

Oceans

300

Explain the difference between covalent and ionic bonds.

Covalent bonds share electrons, while ionic bonds transfer electrons.

400

What is a compound made of?

Atoms of two or more of different elements

400

Eutrophication can cause __________ or low oxygen levels.

hypoxia

400

The atmosphere contains about 78% of which gas?

Nitrogen

400

What does the Law of Conservation of Mass state

Matter can be created nor destroyed

400

Describe the process of the water cycle.

Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, transpiration, runoff

500

A molecule is created when?

Two or more atoms are joined by covalent bonds.

500

Bacteria in soy beans and peanuts help to nitrogen.

fix

500

Which type of feedback loop stabilized a system?

Negative

500

Explain the process of Eutrophication

Eutrophication can lead to hypoxia or low oxygen conditions when the excess plants die.  Bacteria remove oxygen from water when they decompose the dead plants.  This leads to fish kills and dead zones.

500

How do tectonic plate movements influence climate? How did Pangea accelerate or boost evolution?

Plate movements alter and change landforms, which changes in rain and climate patterns. Pangea isolated and brought together many species, causing them to quickly adapt and evolve over time.
