Tutors at your site are not getting along or working well together... what do you do? 

It is our goal that all staff will enjoy their job and that the feeling of enjoyment will affect the tone of the ESD program at your school.  It is your job to assure that any “drama” stays outside the building and that tutors work harmoniously with each other.

How do you initiate conversations to include your campus principal in need to know situations?

Email, if you need to meet in person email for an appropriate appointment time. Remember campus admin has many obligations during a school day. More information is best, you can always CC your campus admin in need to know situations.

You are doing something fun at your site, can you take a picture or video and save it in your phone so you have memories later?

SITE COORDINATORS can take pictures/videos to then upload them to the drive. Once uploaded to the brag box, they must be deleted from your personal device.

Students are our customers as well. What are ways to serve our students? 

FUN hands on activities, behavior parties, positive notes, knowing their interests and hobbies, variety of activities, etc.

How can we anticipate the needs of parents in ESD?  

Have kids ready on days you know parents are in a rush, call for students immediately, check students in on time, help with lost and found items, checking for HW daily, sending tuition reminders, etc.

How do YOU enforce the electronic policy with your staff? 

All electronic devices belonging to tutors (smart watches, phones, cameras, video games, etc.) are not permitted in the workplace, except for the lead tutor during gym or if they are outside of the school building ONLY to be used in an emergency.  If brought into the building, they must be secured in the designated lock box during working hours each day. This includes planning time. Refer to page 9 of the SC handbook or the electronic policy.

How do you know when 3rd grade has homework? 

It is your responsibility to ensure ESD is aware of when HW is assigned and due. You can do this yourself or you can assign your tutors to reach out to campus teachers.

You are visibly distressed and upset at work and your staff want to know what’s wrong. Where are the lines of oversharing and what is appropriate to share as a supervisor?

What tools are you encouraging students to use when they are dysregulated? 

Breathing exercises, sign a song, counting to 10, sitting out for 5-10 minutes, fidgets, calming activities, etc.

Share newsletters, behavior party flyers, let them know about guest speakers, inform them when you/your tutors receive an award, etc.

Students= Confiscate and report to parents, principal, and ESD admin.

- Maintain an open position without your arms crossed

   - Your facial expressions should match what’s being said

You supervise someone who has connections to someone personal from your past (maybe a roommate or ex partner). What steps do you take to ENSURE confidentiality and objective and FAIR supervision?

Employee confidentiality, not bringing up personal/outside events, see your tutor as an individual set apart from your outside connections, etc. 

Reach out to admin if the issue is insurmountable.

A local protestor is standing on the sidewalk across from the school holding an inappropriate sign and yelling negative remarks... What do you do? 

Contact ESD admin, turn to safety channel and ask for a liaison officer to help.

What do you do if you have a dad upset and wanting to remove mom from all Brightwheel access? 

DO NOT REMOVE ACCESS WITHOUT ADMIN APPROVAL***** 

Ask why and if they have court documentation to provide. Send copies of court docs to ESD admin. Check with campus admin to see if they are aware and if parent in question still has skyward access.
