The Treaty of Versailles demanded that Germany 1) accept all responsibility for starting the war, 2) pay all war reparations, 3) give back all land to the Allied powers, and 4) reduce their army and not have it exceed 100,000 men. This treaty was more about revenge than it was surrender. The lasting legacy is that the Treaty would prove to be the spark to start WWII.
