A wound that breaks the chest wall and can directly injure the lungs, heart, or major vessels

Fire, Wire, Gas, Glass
What is part of your environmental hazards?
Anterior chest pain, tenderness, may be associated with myocardial contusion
What is a sternal fracture?
Chest Pain, Arrhythmias, SOB, hypotension, signs of heart failure
What is myocardial contusion?
SOB, Tachycardia, Cough, Cynanosis, Hemoptysis, Evidence of Blunt Trauma
What is a Hemothorax?
Where gas exchange occurs
What is the Alveoli?
Abdominal organs herniate into the chest
What is a diaphragmatic rupture?
Bruise of lung tissue, interferes with oxygen exchange
What is a Pulmonary Contusion?
SOB, Cough, Chest Pain, Tachypnea, Hypoxia
What is a Pulmonary Contusion?
A penetrating injury to this organ can result in hemoptysis and impaired gas exchange

SOB, Air bubbling in/out of open chest wound and sucking/Gurgling sound

Results in
