What are the steps of the scientific method? Briefly describe each one.
Observe, hypothesize, test, conclusion, and evaluate.
What does SSRI stand for and what do they do?
SSRI: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor
They increase serotonin levels in the brain.
What is the difference between bottom-up and top-down processing?
Bottom-up: Stimulus from the outside world triggering sensory receptors that send signals to our brain to be interpreted.
Top-down: When prior experiences influence our reaction and behavior in a new experience.
Describe William James' Idea of functionalism. What is stream of consiousness?
The mind is a functional tool that allows organisms to adapt to their environment.
"As you are introspecting about something that has already happened to you, you are changing how you think about something (therefore) altering your stream of consciousness.”

Explain the difference between independent variable vs. dependent variable.
Independent Variable: Aspect of an experiment that is the hypothesized cause and is manipulated.
Dependant Variable: Aspect of the experiment that has an outcome dependant on the independent.
Explain the process of action potential.
Action potential allows the cells to communicate because neurons receive stimulus from the dendrites and then send it down the axon. At the end of the axon, the vesicles containing neurotransmitters release them into the synapse for the next dendrite to absorb.
What are the two theories of color vision? Explain each one.
Trichromatic Theory: There are only three cones in the eye red, green, and blue. According to this theory, vision is seen as a TV, with each cone representing a cone that is any combination of those three colors.
Opponent Process Theory: Proposes that one member of the color pair suppresses the other color.
