Adopted by the General Assembly in 2007, to establish a universal framework of minimum standards for the survival, dignity and well-being of the indigenous peoples of the world.
What is the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Access to medical care, clean water and access to nutritious food are markers of this strand of wellbeing
What is health?
2 factors which are valued by Indigenous Australian communities as markers of well-being
What are community, identity, spirituality, language, connection to land etc...
A report instigated by then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in order to reduce health, wealth and education disparity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities
What is the 'Close the Gap' report?
Description of a conclusion drawn from something (like a pattern), although it is not explicitly stated.
What is the implication?
The right not be assimilated/ destruction of culture, the right to self-determination, the right to practice traditions and customs, the right to establish own media, the right to stat redress for any action which aims to dispose of lands, deprive cultural values or forced population transfer... etc.
What are the rights in the UNDRIP?
A measure of wellbeing that looks at the overall satisfaction of the citizens of a country
What is GNH/Gross National Happiness?
What is inability to concentrate in class, unable to afford/purchase school supplies, unable to attend school due to poor health/diseases, unable to attend school as they need to work .

What are Indigenous Australians less likely to live as long, the life expectancy gap has not been closed, Indigenous men are most likely to die younger out of all age groups.

What is a PQE Method?
No single arm of the parliamentary system (government parliament and courts) has the power over both the political and legal systems

One measures the $ value of everything produced in a country in one year, one measures the $ value of income earned (inclusive of overseas income)

Patterns: countries in Western world generally high levels of psychiatrists per population, countries in Africa and Asia generally low levels of psychiatrists per population

What are consequences?
Approval by a majority of votes throughout the whole of Australia (including territories) and a majority of votes in at least four of the six states.

What are the limitations of indicators?
Explain why countries with high GDP often have high levels of health
Should have come discussion of health expenditure, eradication of diseases, ability to build healthcare infrastructure...

Patterns: Indigenous children in capital cities have higher reading standards than those in regional or rural areas
Quantitative: At least 50% of Indigenous children on the east coast meet the reading standards compared to a majority of Indigenous children on the west coast
Exceptions: Perth Indigenous children 70% - 85% meet the reading standards. Some children in regional northern Queensland do not meet 50% reading standard
