A text structure where an author describes how two things are different & the same.
What is Compare and Contrast?
The problem or drama in the story.
What is conflict?
One or two words that describe what a text is mostly about.
What is topic?
The point of highest tension in a plot. Where the main character learns a lesson or changes.
What is the climax?
A comparison between two different things using the words LIKE and AS.
What is a simile?
A text structure where an author describes a person, place, or thing using facts and details.
What is descriptive structure?
Two characters are fighting or arguing in the story.
The central point of a piece of writing.

A comparison between two different things WITHOUT using the words LIKE or AS.
A text structure where an author presents their opinion and provides reasons and evidence to back it up.
What is an argument?
A character needs to survive in a difficult or dangerous environment.
What is character vs. nature?
A short sentence that describes what a text was mostly about without adding any personal opinions.
What is a summary?
The beginning of the story, where the characters and setting are introduced.

The common cold and the flu have a lot of similar characteristics, but they are different illnesses caused by different viruses. Even though many of the symptoms, such as fever, tiredness, and a cough are the same for a cold and the flu, symptoms of the flu are usually much worse. When someone suffers from a cold, they usually continue their daily lives, going to work or school. However, the side effects of the flu are so severe that people often stay home from work or school. Colds usually cause a runny or stuffy nose, where the flu is less likely to cause such symptoms. The flu must be diagnosed with a special test from your doctor’s office.
What is compare and contrast?
Jalil wants to pass the test on Friday, but he hasn't studied at all. He is tempted to cheat off his best friend, but he isn't sure what to do.
What is character vs. self?
A fact, statement, or quote that backs up a main idea.
What is supporting details?
The part of the story where the characters deal with increasing tension and conflict.
What is the rising action?
Although many wildfires occur in “wild” areas such as forests and hills, they are called wildfires because they are uncontrolled and can destroy everything in their path. Depending on how large a wildfire is, it can even change a location’s weather. On average, 1.2 million acres burn every year because of wildfires.
What is descriptive?
Katniss is oppressed by living in District 12. The Capital keeps all of the money and resources for themselves, and that is very unfair. She becomes a leader of the revolution against the unfair Capital.
What is character vs. society?
The reason an author writes a text.
