What are the x and y intercepts and what do they tell us in a word problem?
The x and y intercepts are the points in which cross the x and y axis. They tell us how much of a quantity we have when one of the coordinates (x or y) is at zero.

The distance formula represents another formula we have worked with this year. What is the formula and what are the similarities and differences between the two?
The distance formula is another version of the Pythagorean theorem except we are using coordinates instead of side lengths. When the coordinates are subtracted from one another they give us side lengths. We then have the exact same formula as the pythagorean theorem.

Explain what the x and y intercepts will tell us in the following problem: Darlene wants to buy an arrangement of flowers. She has $70. Carnations cost $5 per flower and tulips cost $10.
The x and y intercepts tell us how much of each flower we can buy if Darlene decides to get 0 of either carnations or flowers. With 0 carnations, she could get 7 tulips and with 0 tulips she could get 14 carnations.
