Yes. Every single failure needs to be reported. Your supervisor may advise you to add a "generic or general" SIMS so it becomes a habit.

- Pressures, settings, conditions noted during troubleshooting
- Misc expenses
- Problems completing the repair
Can I fix my time (labor) after I submit it?
Yes, as long as payroll hasn't run yet.

While working on a job, how do I communicate internally about a work order or about a specific segment?
Go to the Notes Tab.
SPI notes can be emailed to another user, but they are mostly used to document the status of a job, document a conversation with a client, or to retain information for billing, warranty or other purposes.
SPI notes can NOT be modified or deleted. It becomes part of the permanent record of the work order.
When is the best time to complete your service report?
Immediately after the work is completed (if possible).
When is the best time to add your "labor" to a job in SPI2?
Right after you write your service report or right after you complete the work (If you can.)

Yes. You will create a "revised copy".

Every single day - to allow time to make changes before payroll runs.
You are in complete control of your labor and getting paid!
Is DBS going away?
NO! SPI2 and DBS speak to each other every few minutes. SPI2 overlays DBS.
Why would I go to the Equipment Tab?
Look up open work orders.
See historical work orders.
Look at oil samples.
Look at Outstanding Service Letters.
Look up and verify SMU history
Look up Warranty Information
How would you find a service report that you didn't finish? One that you saved in "draft" form.
Search by your employee number to find the service report in "draft" status.
What if I don't have internet service at the site? How can I write my service report?
Ask your supervisor, but you have two choices:
1. Use STW
2. Wait until you have service and then write your service report.
What time of day can you NOT enter time in SPI2?
N/A - because you can add time anytime in SPI2. If DBS is batching, SPI2 will connect when done. The labor entry could be delayed, but it's in there!

Go to the Training Tab and click on "Book 1 on 1 Help"

Type in the work order number. Click Actions. Click Edit. Open Segments Tab. Click Actions on the segment with parts. Scroll down to Parts.

Tell us about SIMS? What is it and why is it important?
Every separate event significant enough to require a repair or that effects the operation of the product.
If the original part fails and is replaced with an updated part number, SIMS the original part number.
SIMS the failed part.
If Reman failed and was replaced with a new part, SIMS the Reman part number.
It's important because it determines warranty, and it helps with Caterpillar's product problem management.
