Because he saw how his fellow Hebrews where being beat upon by the Egyptian slave drivers and he didn't like it. One day when he saw this harsh treatment he had enough of it and he killed an Egyptian slave driver. After word got around about what he did, he ran to hide in the dessert so that the Egyptians would not kill him.
