It was foretold that the Messiah would be betrayed by a treacherous associate. The betrayal of Jesus by Judas was treachery of the worst sort because he was supposed to be a close friend. Jesus called attention to the fulfillment of David's prophetic words when he referred to his betrayer at John 13:18.
