Zeugma- When you use one word to link two thoughts, you're using a zeugma. 

He fished - he went looking for trout which an actual fish and he wanted compliments. So he is on a search for both. 

He carried- He is holding a flashlight and it is used to guide the men. The person holding it has a big responsibility to keep the men safe.
