What are the three stages of a thunderstorm?

Cumulus, Mature, Dissipating.

100

What documents do you as a pilot need to go fly?

Government issued photo ID, FAA Medical, Pilot certificate.

100

What are the symptoms of hypoxia?

Cyanosis (blue fingers), headache, euphoria, dizziness, visual impairment, impaired judgement, drowsiness, etc.

100

What are the different types of classes of airspace?

Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Golf

100

What are the three factors that affect your performance?

Density, weight, and wind.

200

What is dew point?

Dew point is the temperature in which the air needs to be cooled to for full saturation of water vapor.

200

What are the requirements to take up passengers as a Private Pilot?

You need to do three takeoffs and landings in the proceeding 90 days in the same category and class (type if required.)

200

What are the different types of stress and fatigue?

Chronic and Acute.

200

Alpha airspace extends up to which altitudes?

18,000ft MSL - FL 60,000ft

200

What are the required documents that have to be in your airplane to legally fly?

Supplements, placards, airworthiness, radio operating license, registration, operating manual, weight and balance.

300

What is the weather associated with a cold front and a warm front?

Cold front: They are fast and steep moving. Typically associates with worse weather. Thunderstorms, squall lines, hail, tornadoes, snow, decrease in temperatures.

Warm front: They are slow and shallow moving. Typically associated with better weather. Steady rain, high overcast clouds, low visibility, warmer weather.

300

If you have a first class medical and are over 40 years old, how long does your medical last?

Your first class privilege's last 6 months, then it goes down to second class for another 6 months, then it will go to third class for another 12 months.

300

What are the time limits and altitudes for scuba diving?

If the flight is less than 8,000ft MSL: For uncontrolled ascent, wait 12 hours before flying. For controlled ascent, wait 24 hours before flying.

If the flight is more than 8,000ft MSL: Wait 24 hours before flying regardless of the type of descent.

300

How do you depict a charlie airspace on a sectional and a Delta airspace on a sectional?

Charlie is a solid magenta ring, delta is a dashed blue ring.

300

What is the purpose of flaps?

Flaps produce greater lift and permit a lower landing speed. Producing greater drag, permitting a steep descent angle without airspeed increase.

400

What are the six types of turbulence?

Clear air turbulence, Thermal, Mechanical, Frontal, Mountain wave, Convective.

400

What are your privileges at a private pilot?

You can fly with passengers, fly at night, fly internationally, exercise pro rata share when flying, conduct sanctioned charitable or non profit events, fly search and rescue, aircraft sales demonstraion, etc.

400

Give an example of 4 Illusions.

Inversion, Coriolis, Elevator, False Horizon, Leans, Autokinesis, Graveyard spiral, Somatogravic.

400

What are the different types of special use airspace?

Explain them.

Military operating area (MOA): Separates certain military traffic or training. You can fly through it, exercise caution.

Controlled firing area (CFA): Contains activities that could be hazardous to to non participating aircraft. Activities are suspended immediately when an aircraft approaches. Not depicted on the sectional.

Prohibited: Areas established for security or other reasons associated with national welfare where aircraft movement is prohibited.

Restricted: Not wholly prohibited but subject to restrictions. Must verify is the area is "hot" or "cold." Flying through an active area requires clearance from the controlling facility/ATC.

Alert area: Warns non participating aircraft of high levels of pilot training or aerial activity. Can fly through.

Warning area: Extending 3nm offshore that contains activity that may be hazardous non-participating aircraft. You can fly through.

National Security Area: Requires increased security pilots are requested to voluntarily avoid flying through.

400

What is the four strokes of the engine called?

Intake, compression, combustion, exhaust.

500

Give three examples of a weather observation product.

Give one example of a weather analysis product.

Give three examples of a weather forecast product.

Observation: METAR, PIREP, the radar

Analysis: Surface analysis chart

Forecast: TAF, Airmet, Convective Sigmet

500

What are the limitations to a basic med? What is the Advisory circular associated?

AC 68-1A.

No more than 7 occupants in the aircraft, maximum takeoff weight of 12,500 pounds, cannot fly higher than 18,000 ft, cannot exceed 250 knots, cannot fly compensation for hire,

500

What is the definition of hypoxia?

What are the four types of hypoxia and explain them.

Hypoxia is a medical condition that occurs when the body's tissues and organs do not receive enough oxygen to function normally.

Hypoxic: Insufficient oxygen, caused by insufficient oxygen pressure (high altitude.)

Hypemic: Inability to absorb oxygen, caused by reduced blood volume like anemia, CO poisoning.

Stagnant: Blood isn't flowing, caused by g forces, cold temperatures, not moving, maneuvers.

Histotoxic: Inability to use oxygen (poisonous), caused by drugs and alcohol.

500

What are the cloud clearances in G airspace?

Below 1,200ft AGL: Day 1sm clear of clouds. Night 3sm, 500ft below, 1,000ft above, 2,000ft horizontal.

Above 1,200ft but below 10,000ft: Day 1 sm, 500ft below, 1,000ft above, 2,000ft horizontal.

Above 10,000ft: 5sm, 1,000ft below, 1,000ft above, 1,000ft horizontal.
