2 part Question (DOUBLE THE POINTS!): What was the nature of Adam and Eve when they were first created, and what made them immortal? What happened to their nature when they sinned? According to Orthodox Tradition.

According to the Early Church Fathers: The Holy Trinity created man as the object of Divine Love. God saw His creation as good. Man was created from dust, and like all created beings, mortal and corruptible (note corruptible and corrupt are not the same thing). Adam and Eve received the breath of Life, the Holy Spirit, and granted them the gift of immortality and incorruptibility.

When they sinned (by choosing other than God's will), the Holy Spirit withdrew, leaving them in their own human nature, corruptible and mortal.

John 20:6-7

6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.

What is the significance of the folded handkerchief?

According to Hebrew tradition, the folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure the table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating. Now if the master was done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not touch the table, because the folded napkin meant, "I'm coming  back!" - This was another way Christ is saying He will come again!
