What is Deontological ethics (Duty-based ethics)?
A federal law that requires healthcare facilities receiving Medicare/Medicaid to inform patients of their rights to make medical decisions and use advanced directives
What is the Patient Self-Determination Act (PSDA)?
A patient safety event that results in injury/harm, stemming from medical care rather than the underlying disease
What is an adverse event?
Unwelcome/unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature
What is sexual harassment?
Providers must follow this US federal law designed to protect the privacy, confidentiality, and security of sensitive patient health information

A specific and more severe type of medical negligence (tort) caused by a healthcare provider’s reckless disregard or knowing violation of professional standards

Is supported by a large amount of scientific research and should always be used when diagnosing and treating patients
What is evidence-based medicine?
Was enacted to grant temporary medical leave to employees under certain circumstances
What is the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)?
Unilateral termination of the provider-patient relationship without providing adequate notice to the patient
