Types of Shots
This shot is taken from a sufficient distance to show a landscape, a building, or a large crowd.
What is a long shot?
What is a pan?
The camera looks down at what is being photographed. This makes objects look smaller or insignificant.
What is high angle?
The most common type of transition in which one scene ends and a new one immediately begins.
What is cut?
This type of shot is between a long shot and a close-up that might show two people in full or several people from the waist up.
What is a medium shot?
The camera pints up or down from a fixed base.
What is a tilt?
A shot that approximates human vision; a camera presents an object so that the line between camera and object is parallel to the ground.
What is eye level?
One scene gradually goes dark and the new one gradually emerges from the darkness.
What is fade-out/fade-in?
This type of shot shows one face or object that fills the screen completely.
What is a close-up?
The camera moves up or down through space.
What is a boom?
The camera looks up at what is being photographed/recorded. This makes the subject look bigger, more important, or intimidating.
What is low angle?
A gradual transition, in which the end of one scene is superimposed over the beginning of a new one.
What is disolve?
This type of shot is of a small object or part of a face that fills the screen.
What is an extreme close-up?
The camera moves through space on a wheeled tuck (or dolly), but stays on the same plane.

An optical effect in which one shot appears to "wipe" the preceding one from the screen.

What is a medium shot?
Not a camera movement, but a shift in the focal length of the camera lens to give the impression that the camera is getting closer to or further form an object.
