It further increased the United States’ willingness to go to war.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand
This commercial cruise liner was sunk by a German U-boat in 1915. 128 US citizens died in the attack, igniting the anger of US citizens and turning public opinion against Germany.
RMS Lusitania
This was warfare in which both sides found themselves mired during WWI. It involved soldiers living in long ditches for protection while they fired on the enemy.
