A powerlifter is standing with the barbell in his hands, holding it up. Is the powerlifter doing work? Explain.
The powerlifter is NOT doing work. The powerlifter is using force to hold the barbell up, but he is not doing work because he is not moving the barbell. Work requires distance.
100
The type of matter that hydrogen peroxide is (H2O2)
What is a compound?
100
How do you find the number of electrons in an element?
Same as the number of protons or the atomic number.
100
The type of circuit that has alternate pathways to reach the energy source.
What is a parallel circuit?
200
The amount of liters in 200 decaliters
What is 2,000 Liters?
200
What is the difference between a compression and rarefaction?
A compression is when the particles are close together in a longitudinal wave. A rarefaction is when the particles are spread out in a longitudinal wave.
200
You have a mixture of sand and salt. What method would you use to separate them?
What is filtration?
200
How many valence electrons does phosphorus have?
What is 5 valence electrons?
200
Is Na(OH) an acid or a base? How do you know?
It is a base because it ends with OH.

What charge would a Sulfur ion have?
What is -2?
300
What type of chemical reaction is the following: CaBr2 + AgNO3 --> AgBr + Ca(NO3)2
What is a double displacement reaction?
400
The force of a 2kg baseball accelerating at 25m/s^2. Include units!
What is 50N?

Explain why a siren sounds louder the close it gets to you.
What is the Doppler Effect? As the source of the sound gets closer to you, the wavelength of the sound waves decrease, increasing the frequency, which increases the pitch.
400
A chemical reaction is occurring between calcium chloride and water. The water starts to boil. What type of reaction is this?
What is an exothermic reaction?
400
What is the name for the following compound: N2O5?
What is dinitrogen pentaoxide?

Tod wanted to see how watering his plants affected their growth. He planted two of the same plants in the same area of his garden in the same type of soil. Both plants received the same amount of sunlight. Every day at 6PM, he watered both plants. He watered plant A for 2 minutes, what he always does. He watered plant B for 5 minutes. He measured plant growth after a week on doing this. He noticed that Plant A grew 3 inches and Plant B grew 1 inch.Name the following: Independent variable, dependent variable, experimental group, control group, & constants
Independent: Amount of time watered Dependent:Plant growth Experimental Group: Plant B Control Group: Plant A Constants: Same plants, same soil, same garden, same amount of sunlight; water both at 6PM

Cameron finished a 2,000m marathon in 3,600 seconds. Bob finished the same marathon but he did it in 7,200 seconds. They both used a force of 10N. What is Cameron's Work? What is Bob's work? Who did more work? What was Cameron's power? What was Bob's power? Who had more power? Include units!
Cameron: Work-20,000J; Power-5.55W Bob: Work-20,000J; Power-2.77W They both did the same amount of work. Cameron had more power because she did the same amount of work quicker.

Describe particle motion of a substance that goes from a gas, condenses to form a liquid, and freezing to form a solid. Include the arrangement of the particles and particle motion.
In a gas, particles are not attracted to each other at all. They are moving very quickly and bouncing off each other. In a liquid particles are bound to each other, but they are free to slide past each other. They move slower than in a gas. In a solid, particles are tightly packed. They vibrate in place slowly.

What is the formula for the following compound: Calcium Bromide
What is CaBr2?

Give an example of one process that would speed up a chemical reaction. State why/how this process would speed up a chemical reaction.
Catalyst/Enzyme: Lowers the activation energy required to start the reaction Increase Temperature: Causes the particles to move faster and bump into each other more Increase Surface Area: Particles have more area to bond to each other Increase Pressure: Particles are forced to be closer together in a smaller space and bump into each other more
