Hints or clues that suggest what may happen later in a story.
Foreshadowing
A type of folktale that explains something about nature, the world, or how things came to be the way they are.
Myth
A truth about life that is revealed in a story.
Theme
A subdivision of an act that changes for a new time or location.
Scene
Using an object or word to represent an abstract idea.
Symbolism
A point of view in which the narrator is not in the story but focuses on one character.
Third Person Limited
The main character in a story.
Protagonist/Hero
The part of the plot where the setting, characters, and basic situation are revealed.
Exposition
The written text of a play.
Script
The author shows you what a character is like through thoughts, feelings, choices, and actions.
Indirect Characterization
The attitude of the writer or speaker.
Tone
The person (or force) in conflict with the protagonist.
Antagonist/Shadow
A genre that is set in the future and based on the impact of real, potential, or imagined technology.

Act
