Scout screwed up her performance as a ham on stage and was embarrassed so she didn't want to leave until almost everyone had left. As she left with Jem, they walked back home and were then attacked. Jem's arm was broken and Scout heard scuffling, only to find out that the noises she heard were Boo coming to save her and Jem. Boo killed the attacker (Bob Ewell) and carried Jem home.
