Read and Identify Main idea: A chimpanzee, or chimp, is a type of ape. Chimps are mammals that live in Africa’s rainforests, woodlands, and grasslands. They live in groups called communities with up to 60 members. Chimps travel in small groups called bands. To communicate with each other, chimps grunt and bark to talk. They also use their hands to make gestures, or signs, to other chimps. Chimps are omnivores, which means they eat meat and plants.
