One of the four witnesses in the Ewell v. Robinson case, this man is the sheriff of the town. He’s respected, stubborn and a powerful figure in Maycomb county. He believed Mr. Ewell was guilty but could not do anything about it except tell the truth. He refuses to convict Jem for murder and through this, shows us that he is perfectly capable of competing with Atticus Finch in an argument, even with his significantly less schooling.
Who is Heck Tate?
This character is originally disliked and misunderstood by Jem and Scout by the time of the trial due to the general opinion on him. They dislike him based solely on his affinity for black people and his mixed children, which is completely unfair. After spending some time with him and talking to him, they start to realize that this man is a better man than half of the people in the town.
This not so fictional European leader was disliked by all but was a confusing topic for Scout. He killed the jews and his oppressive nature was bothersome. Scout didn’t understand how people could dislike Hitler so greatly and then still continue to persecute the blacks and when Atticus finally decides to stick up for black people, people belittle him.

This black character has one working arm and ‘supposedly’ forced himself upon another troubled character in the book. He died trying to escape the prison he was sent to.
This group of people, led by the aunt of Jem and Scout, has good(ish) intentions but as the meeting carries on, you realize that there is nothing good happening. It is basically a gossip circle where they trash Atticus and members of different ethnicities. What is this group originally called?
This incident scared the housekeeper of the Finches badly, and also made Jem realize that there’s more to his Dad then he thinks. He learned of Atticus’ old title of “Deadshot Atticus” and his deadly precision with a rifle.

This event forced the community of Maycomb to come together to help a neighbor out. Some even went so far as to put their lives in danger just to save something with as little value as a piece of furniture. This event caused the destruction of one house, but it was no problem to the owner due to the fact that this event would allow her to downsize her house and expand her house.
What was Atticus’ nickname due to his extreme proficiency with a rifle? Which he never displayed to Jem and Scout until very late into their childhood with the incident with the dog. As a shooter, he was always off to the right and yet always only used q shot.
What is Ol’ One-shot?
Scout had a pageant on the night of Halloween and two long, dark walks in between which were accompanied by her brother, Jem. She fell asleep and badly missed her part. This embarrassment caused her to hold out until after everyone had left to finally leave herself. As they left, she realized she had forgotten her shoes but it was too dark to go back. All of these factors made this a perfect opportunity to sneak up on the kids. Jem tried his best to help Scout but ended up with a broken arm instead. Ultimately, the only unfavorable factor was the costume. What was this costume and why was it so effective?

Scout’s stubborn first grade teacher who refused to let her read her own way.. She was the first one to tell Scout that Atticus was not allowed to teach her anymore because it is her job, not him. She was a new and young teacher who had just been taught a ‘new’ way to read.
This widow is widowed due to a blown case. Although everyone knew the truth, the jury still decided that her husband was guilty, ultimately leading to his death. She then has to work since her family has no other source of income. On her way to work, she is constantly heckled, so much so that Mr. Ewell is almost imprisoned for it.

This club has a serious problem with Atticus trying to defend the defendant in the case. They are knowledgeable in the law and the courthouse and are oftentimes the only people who show up to the cases.
He is the first of the Finch ancestry to come to America. He fled England to escape religious persecution and started a successful farm on the banks of the Alabama River. The farm supported his family for many years.

This man is the town doctor. Scout and Jem know this man’s walk as well as his father’s and he is more than glad to help out Scout and Jem whenever they need it. He is especially helpful on the night of the attack on Jem and Scout.
