This anime was extremely popular in Japan for accurately representing one of their favorite cultural pastimes. It also was one of the first mainstream anime to focus on a yaoi relationship as well as have several yuri + yaoi supporting cast. However, it is not strictly a BL, as certain lines were not crossed :/
