Who should follow the REACT procedure?

All workers

100

What does the acronym PASS mean?

Pull

Aim.

Squeeze

Sweep

100

How long does a fire extinguishers last?

Fire extinguishers only last 20-30 seconds.

100

What is a CLASS A fire?

•Ordinary combustible materials, such as wood, cloth, paper, rubber and many plastics. They burn with an ember and leave an ash. Extinguish by cooling the fuel to a temperature that is below the ignition temp. Water and other extinguishing agents are effective.

100

What are the types Of Fire Extinguishers that are used at LFS

ABC Multipurpose

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

200

What are the roles of the supervisor in the event of a fire?

Ensure people with mobility challenges are evacuated safely. Relay pertinent information from incident command centre/emergency response team to workers.

200

What type of fire extinguisher are located in the server rooms here at LFS?

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Give  3 example of items that can cause a CLASS C fires

A Class C fire is a fire involving energized electrical equipment.

  •  Power outlets or extension cords
  •  appliances such as microwaves, toasters space heaters, coffee makers
  • Computers and electronic equipment
  • Chargers and batteries that overheat or malfunction
200

What is a CLASS C fire?

Fuels that would be A or B except that they involve energized electrical equipment. Special techniques and agents required to extinguish, most commonly carbon dioxide or dry chemical agents. Use of water is very dangerous because water conducts electricity.

200

What are the types of Portable Fire Extingisher?

Water Extinguishers

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Extinguishers

Dry Chemical Extinguishers

300

What does the acronym REACT mean?

Remove those in immediate danger

Ensure all doors are closed

Activate the fire alarm

Call 911, report location of fire

Try to extinguish or control fire if safe-

300

Explain Dry Chemical Extinguishers

A dry chemical extinguisher is a fire extinguisher that puts out fires by releasing a fine, dry powder. The powder smothers the fire and interrupts the chemical reaction that keeps it burning.

300

What is the role of the fire Marshall in the event of a fire?

Ensure assigned zone is clear. Assist with orderly evacuation. Conduct roll call at muster point.

300

What is a CLASS B fire?

Flammable liquids (burn at room temperature) and combustible liquids (require heat to ignite). Petroleum greases, tars, oils, oil-based paints, solvents, lacquers, alcohols, and flammable gases. High fire hazard; water may not extinguish. Extinguish by creating a barrier between the fuel and the oxygen, such as layer of foam.

300

What are the stages of a Fire?

INCIPIENT STAGE

GROWTH STAGE

FULLY DEVELOPED STAGE

DECAY STAGE

Anatomy Of A Fire Extinguisher: Name 4 parts of the fire extinguisher

  • Discharge Lever – The handle you squeeze to release the extinguishing agent.
  • Discharge Locking Pin and Seal – Prevents accidental discharge; the pin must be pulled before use.
  • Pressure Gauge (not found on CO₂ extinguishers) – Indicates whether the extinguisher is properly pressurized.
  • Carrying Handle – Used to hold and carry the extinguisher.
  • Discharge Hose – Directs the extinguishing agent from the cylinder to the nozzle.
  • Discharge Nozzle – The end of the hose where the extinguishing agent is expelled.
  • Discharge Orifice – The opening in the nozzle through which the extinguishing agent exits.
  • Data Plate – Contains important information such as the extinguisher type, operating instructions, capacity, and maintenance details.
  • Body (Cylinder) – The main container that stores the extinguishing agent under pressure.
400

Explain the PASS METHOD

P.A.S.S method.

Start by standing 1 meter or 6-8 feet back.

1.Pull the pin on the fire extinguisher. The pin can also be twisted.

2.Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.

3.Squeeze the discharge lever or top handle to release agent. Release to stop.

4.Sweep side to side until the fire is completely out.

400

What was the first video we watched during this training session?

We watched a video about the fire tetrahedron

400

What is a CLASS K fire?

•Class K: Fires in cooking appliances that involve combustible cooking media (vegetable or animal oils and fats).

400

What are the fundamental elements required for a combustion

Fuel

Heat

Oxygen

500

Name 3 examples when to NOT FIGHT A FIRE

The fire is spreading beyond the point of origin.

The fire is creating a lot of smoke.

The fire could block your exit.

You do not have the appropriate extinguisher.

You feel uncomfortable or have doubts.

The fire is behind a closed room.

500

Explain Fire Tetrahedron

The fire tetrahedron is a model that explains the four things needed for a fire to start and keep burning: heat, fuel, oxygen, and a chemical chain reaction.

500

What element was on top of the Fire Tetrahedron Triangle

HEAT

500

What is a CLASS D Fire?

Combustible metals, such as magnesium, titanium, zirconium, sodium, lithium and potassium. Most cars contain numerous such metals. Because of extremely high flame temperatures, water can break down into hydrogen and oxygen, enhancing burning or exploding. Extinguish with special powders based on sodium chloride or other salts; also clean dry sand.

500

You should only fight a fire if ALL conditions are met. Name 3 conditions.

•You have an unobstructed exit.

•You have access to a fire extinguisher appropriate for the class of fire.

•People in the area have been notified to evacuate.

•Emergency services have been notified.

•If possible, use a buddy system.

•Check that the fire is out and has not reignited.
