What are some ways to prevent wildfires?

• Make sure there is some type of alarm that can be clearly heard throughout camp. If a fire breaks out, all campers should know in a matter of minutes. If organized fire protection is nearby, everyone in camp should know how to call it.

• Remove all flammable rubbish and leaves from around buildings and tents.

• Hang towels to dry away from stoves and heaters. • Collect fireplace and stove ashes in covered metal containers to cool, then dispose of them properly.

• Make a nightly check of the camp before turning in to see that all fires and lights are out or suitably protected.
