Around 1.5 years ago, I started doing something in Hollow Knight. What did I do?
I started using the Architect mod, a level editor mod, to add random bs to the HK world, making the whole game harder. (I removed a lot of pointless rooms, made every room much, much harder, as well as changing the path/progression of the game. I stopped after doing Howling Cliffs, King Pass, Greenpath, Crystal Peak, Forgotten Crossroads, Fungal Wastes, Fog Canyon, Resting Grounds, left side of City of Tears (basically 1/4th or 1/3rd of the full game. I wonder if I still have access to it somewhere (slight spoilers perhaps, for a future board of mine))
