Foam concentrate that combines the qualities of Fluorprotein
foam with those of (AFFF).
What is Aqueous Film Forming Foam?
The process used to mix foam concentrate with water in a nozzle or proportioner; concentrate is drawn into the water stream by the Venturi method
What is Eduction?
A extinguishing agent formed by mixing a concentrate with water and aerating the solution for expansion; for use on Class A and Class B fires.
What is Foam?
A three-carbon alkane gas (C3H8). It is stored under pressure inside a tank as a colorless, odorless liquid.
What is Propane?
Petroleum-based combustible or flammable liquids that float on water such as gasoline.
What are Hydrocarbon fuels?
(SDS) Reference material that provides information on chemicals that are used,
produced, or stored at a facility.
What is a Safety Data Sheet?
The method is used with portable extinguishers, wheeled extinguishers, skid-mounted twin-agent units, and vehicle-mounted tank systems.
What is Premixing?
The raw chemical compound solution that is mixed with water and air to produce finished foam.
What is Foam Concentrate?
Used as an odorant in flammable gas to make leaks easily detectable, as they can be smelled at very low concentrations.
What is Mercaptan?
A flammable liquids that mixes readily with water.
What are Polar solvents?
(CAFS) High-energy foam-generation system consisting of an air compressor (or other air source), a water pump, and foam solution that injects
air into the foam solution before it enters a hoseline
What is Compressed Air Foam System ?
The method of proportioning foam that uses an external pump or head pressure to force foam concentrate into the fire stream at the correct ratio for the flow desired.
What is Injection?
The result of mixing the appropriate amount of foam concentrate with water; foam solution
exists between the proportioner and the nozzle or aerating device that adds air to create finished foam
What is Foam Solution?
The chosen unmanned device preferred to maintain a safe temperate on a gas storage tank, exposed to large amounts of heat.
What is a ground monitor?
A liquid with a flash points less than 100°F (38°C), Can be ignited without being preheated.
What is a flammable liquid?
(FFFP) These surfactants enable the foam to shed, or separate from, hydrocarbon fuels
What is Film Forming Fluorprotein Foam
The physical law stating that when a fluid, such as water or air, is forced under pressure through a restricted orifice, there is an increase in the velocity of the fluid passing through the orifice and a corresponding decrease in the pressure exerted against the sides of the constriction. Because the surrounding fluid is under greater (atmospheric) pressure, it is forced into the area of lower pressure.
What is the Venturi Effect?
The completed product after air is introduced into the foam solution
What is Finished Foam?
B-L-E-V-E
What is a Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion ?
Liquids with a flash point higher than 100°F (38°C). They must be heated above their flashpoint before they can be ignited.
What are Combustible liquids?
(PFAS) been linked to various health problems, and their persistence in the environment raises concerns about long-term contamination
What are Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances ?
The mixing of water with an appropriate amount of foam concentrate in order to form a foam solution.
What is Proportioning?
A device that injects the correct amount of foam concentrate into the water stream to make the foam solution.
What is a Foam Proportioner?
An engineered valve or other device used to control or limit the pressure in a system or vessel, often by venting excess pressure.
What is a Pressure Relief Device (PRD)?
The 3 main techniques of foam application.
What are Roll-On, Bank-Down and Rain-Down?
