Why did music become secular and not liturgical?

The creation of the opera house allowed composers to write and play music that wasn't about the church. Before, the only place to perform was the Cathedral meaning the music had to be liturgical.

Renaissance: Between conservative and liberal because secular music started to appear and music started to get complex but it was still mainly vocal, liturgical, and for men.

Baroque: Liberal since woman can now sing, the middle class and poor can participate, instrumental took over, and music was secular.
