Good: In PLC agendas, I write "Click here to see a data tracker example."
Better: "View the data tracking example."
Link descriptive wording that fits naturally within your sentence.
Good: I know text/color contrast is a thing. I assume just sticking to black text on a white background is the only thing that works.
Better: Blue is usually easier to read on a light background, followed by greens or purples. Red, oranges and yellows usually have poor contrast.
Good: When I record a video to share internally, I make sure captions are turned on.
Better: Videos must have accurate captions for spoken dialogue AND meaningful non-speech sounds (applause, suspenseful music, etc...)
Good: Most text needs a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1. But what does that mean?
Better: Every color has a brightness value between 0 and 1. In a contrast ratio, it tells you how different the two values are.
The higher the ratio, the bigger the contrast, the easier to read.
Good: I like to use pre-made templates in Genially, Powerpoint, Adobe, etc...
Better: After you pick your template, check the font to make sure it is sans-serif and the contrast of the font color to the background.
Good: I like to put funny GIFs into Learning Lab or other presentations.
Better: Make sure they stop animating within 5 seconds, provide a pause/stop option, provide alt text.
Good: I highlight key parts in PLC agendas to convey importance.
Better: Highlighting is okay, just make sure it is not the only way that meaning is shown. You can elaborate with text or symbols.
Good: When I record a video, I use the captions and transcripts that Zoom provides.
Better: Double check for accuracy! Sometimes weird things pop up in captions.
Good: When typing in Microsoft Word, I type the title of my document and then increase the font size to be bigger and bold.
Better: Use a built-in heading style. Do not rely on adjusting font size along to distinguish between headings and text.
Good: I'm doing a presentation for staff and plan on sharing the recording and accompanying resources afterwards.
