What is gravity?

Gravity is a force that attracts two bodies toward each other, commonly experienced as the force that pulls objects toward the Earth.

100

What are balanced forces?

Balanced forces are equal in size but opposite in direction, resulting in no change in motion.

100

What are unbalanced forces?

Unbalanced forces are forces that are not equal and opposite, resulting in a change in the motion of an object.

100

What is friction?

  •  Friction is a force that opposes the motion of an object in contact with another object.

What would happen if you tried to pour water into a glass in outer space?

The water would just float, it wouldn't be inside the glass because gravity is what pulls the water downward.

200

Give an example of balanced forces in real life.

A book resting on a table has balanced forces acting on it: the weight of the book down and the normal force of the table up.

200

What is an example of a real life unbalanced forces involving a car?

Pushing a car that is stationary requires unbalanced forces to get it moving.

200

What types of motion is a person on a swing?

Back and Forth

300

What is an example of gravity on Earth?

- An apple falling from a tree.

- people standing on the ground

300

How do balanced forces affect motion?

Balanced forces do not cause a change in motion; the object remains at rest or continues moving at a constant velocity.

300

How do unbalanced forces affect motion?

Unbalanced forces cause an object to accelerate, decelerate, or change direction.

300

If a book is pushed accross the floor and doesn't bump ito anything, what makes it stop moving?

The force of friction makes it slow down, and eventually stop moving.

400

What is force?

All forces are either a push or a pull.

400

What happens to an object in balanced forces?

It remains at rest or moves with constant velocity.

400

What happens to the direction of an object as an unbalanced force acts on it?

It moves in the direction of the greater force.

400

Give an example of 'circular motion' and 'straight motion'.

Circular: a fan, tires, wind mill, ect

Straight: Walking, running, skipping, ect

500

What happens when the size of two forces acting on an object are not equal?

It would cause the objects to change motion, they are unbalanced. These forces can make objects change speed, start ot stop moving, or change direction.

500

Give 2 examples of balanced force?

1.) The force from a duck's/boat's weight is equal to the force of the water pushing up on the duck/boat.

2.) Tug of war that is equal; when each person pulling on the rope are exerting an equal pull force on the rope.

500

Give 2 examples of unbalanced force?

1.) A person pulling a wagon.

2.) A ball rolling down a hill.

500

 How does friction affect motion?

Friction can slow down or stop the motion of an object, depending on the surfaces in contact and the force applied.
