100
How many types of clouds are there?
There are 3 main types.
100
How many types of fronts are there?
3 major fronts.
100
How many types of severe weather?
7 in total.
100
Why is there controversy about Global Warming?
Some people think that the heat change and more severe weather is just part of the Earths natural cycle, since similar things have happened before Greenhouse Gases.
100
What are the 3 cycles?
Nitrogen, Water, and the Carbon Cycles.
200
What are the three main cloud types?
Cirrus, Stratus, and Cumulus.
200
What are the 3 main fronts called?
Cold, Stationary, and Warm fronts.
200
What are a few types of severe weather?
Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Winter Storms, Hail, and Sleet.
200
What is the main cause of Global Warming?
An overabundance of Greenhouse Gases due to humans that trap excess heat in the atmosphere and deplete the Ozone Layer.
200
What is the sign on a weather map for a warm front?
A red line that has red half circles facing the direction that the front is moving.
300
What does a Cirrus cloud look like, and what kind weather does it bring/what pressure system is it in?
It is wispy and white, and it brings nice weather(high pressure system)
300
What is a cold front?
An advancing mass of cold air(like its called). They usually trail on the edge of warm fronts.
300
How do winter storms form?
When a cold and warm front collide, but the cold front pushes the warm on top of it. If the fronts are in a low pressure system, then when it rains in the upper(warmer) part of the sky, it falls down to the cold front and if it is cold enough it will freeze making frozen precipitation.
300
What is one of Greenhouse Gases that there is an abundance of?
Carbon Dioxide, due to the loss of trees and more emission of smoke.
300
What is the sign on a weather map for a cold front?
A blue line with blue triangles facing the direction the front is moving.
400
What kind of cloud is white, puffy, and brings nice weather with light showers in a high pressure system?
A Cumulus cloud.
400
What is a warm front?
A warm air mass that leads a low pressure system giving nice weather.
400
How do Hurricanes form?
Warm oceans heat the air above it causing it to rise quickly and leaving a low pressure system behind it. Winds rush into the area and the Earths rotation causes it to spiral around a calm eye.
400
What is another harmful Greenhouse Gas?
Methane, there are more organic materials being killed, and when they die, they release methane.
400
What is the sign on a weather map for a stationary front?
A multicolored line with half circles on one side and blue triangles on the other.
500
What does a Stratus cloud look like and what weather does it bring/what pressure system does it belong in?
They are dark and low-hanging. If they are above it is a low pressure system, so there are heavy rains and thunderstorms coming.
500
What do you call an not moving front?
A stationary front. They happen when a warm and cold front collide, but neither go under or over the other.
500
How do Tornadoes form?
We are not completely sure, but we know to winds at different speeds meet and spiral together. A funnel cloud gets created and the tornado touches the ground.
500
What are the last few harmful Greenhouse Gases?
CFC's, hydrofluorocarbons, and other Ozone depleting gases.
500
What are the layers of the atmosphere?(from outermost to innermost)
Exosphere, thermosphere, mesosphere, stratosphere(with the ozone layer), and troposphere.
