What is a calming jar and how does it help?

It is a jar with water, oil or glue, food coloring, and glitter in it.  The calming jar is used to practice mindfulness (shaking the jar, watching the glitter swirl around in the jar and watch it settle).  The swirling of the glitter is like what people feel in their body when they have anxiety and then the glitter settles which resembles how anxiety settles and calms down in a person's body.
