They were a rich aristocratic family but the son, Felix, wanted to break out a Turk from prison after he was put there unjustly. Felix is then promised the Turk's daughter, Safie, in return for his help, however, when Felix does successfully break the Turk free, the Turk starts to go back on his promise. Safie learns of this and runs away to find Felix. Meanwhile, Felix returns to France to find his sister and blind father are in jail due to their help in the jailbreak. They agree to be banished in exchange for their freedom and the family settles down in a cottage where Safie eventually finds them

The monster gives his side of the story and starts to sway Walton with his eloquence, but upon remembering Frankenstein's warnings of the monster's persuasive powers, recovers his wits and charges the monster to go away.
