Protected Speech
This amendment to the Constitution protects all forms of expression, incl. Written/Spoken words, expressive conduct, art, clothing, gestures, flag burning, and protests.
What is the 1st Amendment?
These cannot be promoted or incited, but only if the threat is legitimate.
What is Violence or harm?
This type of signage may be posted on campus, subject to certain guidelines and limitations.
All people have the right to peacefully WHAT any speaker, event, or issue.
What is Protest?
This term encapsulates speech that is likely to incite violence or indicates a willingness to attack.
What are Fighting Words?
Signs, Posters, Fliers and Banners are defined and referred to as this.
What is Signage?
Political opinions may be expressed, but you may not express them with one of THESE while indoors.
What is a Bullhorn/Megaphone/Sound Amplifier?
An example of this would be if Coca-Cola posted a banner claiming their beverage cured cancer.
What is false advertising?
Temporary non-commercial signage shall clearly identify this, otherwise it must be registered with the Cal Poly Office of Facilites Services.
What are date of posting, contact information?
In most cases, this is as fully protected as any other form of protected speech.
What is hate speech?
A business law student could help you define these terms that could "drag your name through the mud"
What are Libel (written) and Slander (verbal)?
Every Saturday night closing shift at the UU, is when this happens.
What is clearing the Bulletin Board Downstairs?

What is American Democracy?
These cannot be used to promote partisan politics, but advocating for voter registration would be allowed, for example.
Banners on the UU outdoor railing cannot be larger than these dimensions.
