What scripted response should be used when someone requests gender-affirming care
“I’m happy to schedule you for a primary medical or dental appointment at one of our four health centers. While gender-affirming care is not a service we provide, we encourage you to discuss any clinical questions or concerns directly with your provider during your visit. Provider Change Request Process
This is not a new process at Spectrum, but one that is now being followed more closely as part of our commitment to maintaining effective and efficient practices across our Health Centers. This approach ensures our Clinical Department has the necessary insight and authority to evaluate requests that may require clinical intervention. (You can tell patents this if they ask if the process is new)
When a patient asks to change their provider:
Inform the patient that you will take down their information and submit the request to the Clinical Department for review and approval.
If asked about the process, explain that it is not new, but is now being enforced more consistently.
Let them know the review process may take up to 30 days, and in the meantime, appointments must continue to be scheduled with their current Usual provider.
To complete the request, collect the following information:
Patient Name
Date of Birth
Patient ID#
Current Provider
Date Request Made
Requested Provider (if any):
Reason for Request (in the patient’s own words)
Once collected, send the information
