How did Nick Allen change throughout the novel.
At first he was just a kid looking to have fun in class and not have to do too much work. Then he decided to start a movement to create a new word, frindle, to experiment with something he learned from Mrs. Granger. At first he just did it to mess with her, but then he became proud of his word and that it was becoming so popular. However, when his word began to go worldwide, he became embarassed by all of the fame he was getting and was tired of people expecting so much of him. As he got older though, he again became proud that he had been the start of such a movement.

How did Mrs. Granger change during the novel?
At first, she was very serious and strict about words and their importance, especially when it comes to the dictionary. After Nick created his word, she realized the importance of her own words, "Who says d-o-g means dog? You do, Nicholas." and that its important for kids to understand their own power in regards to language and responsibility and leadership. Instead of being annoyed by Nicholas and the disruptions he was causing, she was proud of the movement he had started and that he had really understood and believed in what she meant about words and their origins.
