How did the Cuban Missile Crisis begin?

The US attempted to overthrow Fidel Castro and his government in Cuba with the Bay of Pigs invasion. The invasion failed. The United States had installed several nuclear missile sites in Turkey and Italy with the range to strike Moscow. The Soviet Union felt they needed missile sites that could strike at the United States. The Cuban govt. wanted protection from the United States. On October 14, 1962 an American spy plane captured pictures of long range Soviet missiles in Cuba. Kennedy set up a naval blockade.
