There are two ways to achieve a brush off leather. For one, the tannery applies a different color atop the leather and brushes it off on a burnishing wheel. For the other, the top surface color is rubbed off using an alcohol or acetone wipe. (Veronica short, Paige tall Riding, Melissa Button)

What is the difference between Vegetable and Chrome tanning?
Vegetable tanning uses vegetable ingredients, made of water containing natural tanning extracts from plant leaves, bark etc. (most common is from mimosa or wattle trees) makes slightly firmer leathers that need to be conditioned more. Chrome uses a chrome based tanning liquor usually of mineral salts (chromium sulfate) takes 24 hours, most of ours are hot stuffed- meaning oils are added under pressure or heat. (Crazy horse)

What is a Goodyear Welt construction and what is a Lockstitch?
A sewn leather strap (known as the welt) secures the upper to the inner sole. It is the sturdiest of all footwear constructions. Insoles are built into the shoe, not slipped in afterwards. A Lockstitch is used in Goodyear welting, a double thread stitch that locks the threads together within the material. It is distinguished in service by the fact that breaking one stitch does not permit the seam to unravel.
