“I found this many glowing berries by the river.
The monkeys took half, then tossed one berry back like it was a joke.
Later, the parrots stole half of what I had left, but then returned two berries because they felt dramatic.
The fireflies were watching.
When I finally counted, I had 24 berries.”

No one lived at the lighthouse anymore. It ran itself now, quietly orbiting the asteroid belt and blinking its warning light into empty space.
When the last caretaker left, she recorded one final journal entry.
“I packed the emergency beacons myself before departure.
I remember that much clearly.
During the first solar storm after I left, the lighthouse automatically jettisoned some of them. That’s standard procedure — it always sacrifices half to protect the rest.
Weeks later, a salvage ship docked without permission. They didn’t take anything, but they did leave a small case behind. I inventoried it afterward: three beacons, intact.
Much later — long after the storm debris cleared — Command sent a resupply pod. The manifest says it contained exactly as many beacons as were still active after the storm.
I know the final count because the lighthouse repeats it to itself every night when it runs diagnostics.
It always says the same number.
Eighteen.”

The player journal is full of weird, half-finished lines, but this entry is the one that stuck:
“I found the Glitch Queen in the server ruins.
She wasn’t hostile at first—just… tired.
She asked for a gift, then didn’t ask for it, then did again.
I gave her the stack of mana crystals I’d been saving, and she accepted them like she’d been waiting for them since before the game was patched.
Then she did something that felt like a joke. She split the stack into three equal parts, kept one, and handed me the other two like they were the wrong pieces.
She said, “Take them. You will use half. You will keep half. You will forget half.”
I went to the forge and used exactly half of what she gave me.
The forge was angry. It tried to return what it couldn’t use.
When I checked my inventory afterward, I had 24 crystals left.
The log says I didn’t lose any crystals. The game says I did. I don’t know which one is the glitch.”

The monster didn’t keep a normal diary. It wrote in a way that made the forest feel like it was watching.
“I don’t remember if I ate the villagers or the villagers ate me.
But I do remember the food.
I found a stash of glowing mushrooms in a cave that smelled like old lightning.
I ate a portion of them. I don’t know how much, because I am not good at numbers, only hunger.
Then I got interrupted by the Moth King, who offered me a trade:
“I will take half of what you have left,” he said,
“but I will give you back two mushrooms, because I am a fair monarch in a cruel world.”
I agreed because he looked like he could eat me if I refused.
After the trade, I wandered through the swamp until I found a shrine. The shrine gave me exactly the number of mushrooms I had after the Moth King took his share, plus three more, because the shrine thought I was a hero.
Then I slept.
When I woke, I had 31 mushrooms.
The strange thing is, the shrine didn’t give me a number; it gave me a feeling. The number is only true because I’m writing it down.
Also, the Moth King is still watching me from the trees.”
The original pile of mushrooms had 57 mushrooms. The monster ate this many mushrooms before the Moth King took half his share

The police found a notebook in the ashes of the old theater. The paper was scorched, the ink smudged, and the handwriting looked like it was written by someone running out of time.
The entry read:
“This wasn't a puny fire.
This was a statement.
The theater had three rooms I cared about.
The first room was where the critics sat, and I hated critics.
The second room was where the actors pretended to be brave, and I admired that, but not enough to keep them alive.
The third room was where the director hid, and he always hid the best parts.
I poured fuel into each room like I was feeding a hungry animal.
I poured twice as much into the second room as I did into the first, because the actors always got more applause.
Then I poured one more barrel into the third room than I poured into the second, because the director always wanted the last word.
The fire licked the walls and laughed.
The firefighters said the total fuel burned was 36 barrels, and they stared at me like I was a math problem.
I told them the truth: I never touched the lobby. I only touched the rooms.
If you’re reading this, you’re probably trying to make sense of my numbers.
Good. I want you to.
You should know I didn’t leave anything behind. Not even the guilt.”
