Explain what a material list is and how it is used in a design lab
A material list is a list of equipment and the quantity needed for an experiment. It is like a shopping list that says exactly how much you will need and what the items are called. It can be used by a Lab Technician to prepare things for an experiment

Explain what a method is and how to write one in a lab report
A method is a procedure for an experiment. It is written as a step by step guide for to how to do an experiment. It needs to be a logical series of steps so that someone else might be able to repeat the experiment.

How is data collected and used in a design lab? give an example from one of the practical labs in class.
Data is collected by taking measurements and entering this information into tables and later, graphs. Design lab experiments test the independent variable and measure it using a dependent variable. An example is from the speeding marble experiment where results of moving marbles over time (seconds) was measured in distance (centimeters)

A conclusion for a lab report is written using other parts of the scientific method/ lab report, what are the other parts? (minimum 2 needed for this answer)
A conclusion in a lab report looks at the data analysis and relates the experiment results to the research question, background research and the hypothesis.

What function does background research have in a practical experiment? Illustrate your answer with an example from one of the practical labs from class.
Background research is looking up keywords, science principles and topics from reliable sources of science to help outline or explain a testable hypothesis using scientific reasoning. It is this 'scientific reasoning' that comes from the background research of science principles and laws. An example is the 6 basic bridge designs that was used as a background to different design ideas to determine the strongest bridge.

What do you need to write about in the data analysis section of a lab report?
Data analysis looks for the main patterns in the table and graph of the data collection section. You need to accurately interpret and describe the results of these tables and graphs. This means you have to look for the big and small patterns and use the units of measurements of the variables in your sentences to make the analysis clear.

Name 1 environmental benefit of GMOs and 1 ethical risk of GMOs
Environmental-because of climate change GMO could help grow food in dry and salty places, they could withstand high and low temperatures and tolerate insects, disease and herbicides . Ethical-criticism of GMOs include potential toxicity of plants that have been genetically altered.

Name all 7 Science Factors and give a definition of each

When experiments don't reach the conclusions expected (the research question background research, hypothesis and conclusion don't match) how do you explain this in the lab report?
In the evaluation section of the lab report the student needs to look back over the experiment for accuracy, precision and repeatability. This mean that they have to look for measurement errors, human errors in performing the experiment or equipment errors that have affected the results. The evaluation determines all the things that could have affected the results and how to stop this from happening in future experiments.

Name the 3 variables and give a definition of each and how they are used in the experiment.
Controlled variable are all the factors that should remain constant in the experiment. It is the part of the experiment that should not be exposed to the independent variable and which can be used for comparison in the test results. Independent variables are the factors in the experiment that change, sometimes called the manipulated or experimental variable because it is the one that scientists want to test the result of. Dependent variable is the result of the independent variable and sometime it is called the measured variable because it is the variable that shows the effect of what has changed.

Name 2 factors that intersect with the science research on unhealthy brains in children
1. Economic-being poor means that your brain development and health may be adversely affected 2. Political-people from poorer countries where living conditions and safety are issues will lily have poor brain heath as well 3. Social-children with poor brain development find it difficult to succeed at school 4. Cultural-school's are places that can help support healthy brain development by intruding support programs such as 'free lunches'
