The political system of the Soviet Union. It is a system in which goods, property, and capital are controlled by the central government rather than individual buisnesses.

What was the argument used by the NAACP lawyers to challenge the duel school systems in GA and other states? 

NAACP lawyers said that blacks paid equal taxes as whites but did not receive the same benefits. GA state government spent 4x as much on white students than they did black students, white salaries were double in comparison to black salaries, it was so cleary unequal that, “separate but equal“ was abolished.

Martin Luther King Jr. A civil rights activist who dearly supports equality.

They are the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. They believed in equality and acheiving equality by peaceful protests.

What did the GI bill of rights do to assist young soldiers after the war? 

This provided an opportunity for young soldiers to attend college and get an education so that they may reconnect to society.

Why did we start to fear communism? 

Because the Soviet Union had been conquering small countries and turning them communist, many Americans began to believe we were next.

What was the purpose of the freedom rides? 

Black and white members of CORE and SNCC organized trips on the interstate buses in 1961 to challenge segregated bus terminals in the south. The previous year, the US supreme court had ruled buses to be integrated, but buses in the south remained segregated.

Who are the NAACP?

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. They formed in 1909 in an endeavor to integrate all public facilities.

Why was WWII a turning point in race relations in the US? 

During the war blacks and white fought and died with eachother. They fought in the same war under the same conditions. So when they returned to this segregated society they began to reject its policies. They refused to be payed less for doing the same job.

Political warfare between two of the most powerful countries in the war, America and the Soviet Union. To fight against communism.

Federal legislation that prohibited racial discrimination in labor unions, employment, and public facilities.

Many whites and members of the clergy were saying he was moving to fast and was causing way to much termoil.

They are the congress of Racial equality. They are an african american equal rights organization. They demanded equal rights and were more violent than the SCLC.

The Student Nonviolent coordinating Comitee. Students who demanded equality in a non violent way. They organized sit-ins and peaceful protests.

Because after the GI bill was passed many new opportunities opened up for them.

Some black people couldn’t find places to sleep on an overnight trip because motels wouldn’t take black customers.

What was the purpose of the March on Washington? 

The march was to demonstrate the extreme support behind the civil movement. In August 1963, over 250,000 citizens of all races fathered and marched in Washington DC.

How do some of these groups differ? 

They all believe in equal rights but they have different ways on getting it. Some want it now and will result to violence, others are more patient and will wait for it. Dr. King believed in non-violence and I think that is how they should execute their plans.
