What causes Nick to think that Gatsby cannot be telling the truth? What changes his mind?
Nick thinks Gatsby is lying about his past because of a couple of details. First because of how Gatsby chokes on some of his words when recalling his past, like "educated at Oxford.” Also, when Gatsby told Nick that he is from the “mid-west” he follows up by answering “San Francisco” which is not in the mid-west. However Nick then states, "...but a glance at him convinced me otherwise." Nick was even more convinced when Gatsby showed him his war medal and a picture of him with some friends from Oxford. This proof, convinced Nick to believe Gatsby.
