carries out orders of squad leader, responsible for fire control and discipline of his fire team and serves as a grenedier of the grenade launcher.

Primary Fighting Position
Best available; used by individuals, fire teams, squads and crew served weapons

Alternate Fighting Position
Primarily used by Crew-served weapons; Located so that crew served weapon can continue to accomplish it's original mission if the primary position becomes unattainable or unsuited for carrying out mission.

Supplementary Fighting Position
Used to guard against attack from other directions other than from where the main attack is suspected. Does not cover the same field of fire as the primary position.

8 Guidelines in clearing fields of fire
Do not disclose squads fighting position, start clearing near fighting position out, leave thin natural screen of foliage, light wooded areas; remove lower branches of scattered tree's, heavy wooded areas; work to thin undergrowth and removing lower braches of tree's (clear lane of fire for AW); demolish bldg.'s which may hide enemy's; move cut brush so cannot be used by enemy, clear obstructions to avoid premature detonation of M203 projectiles

Final Protective Fires
Final attempt to stop enemy attack before reaches battle position. Rifles and M203's continue to fire at average rate; automatic rifleman will increase to rapid rate, Fire team leaders will shoot M203's in heavily concentrated enemy's
