Countermapping involves challenging dominant power structures and hegemonic narratives at the community level first coined by Nancy Peluso (1995)... It is a specific form of critical cartography that challenges cartographic conventions and assumptions (Harris & Hazen, 2005) and aims to empower marginalized communities and individuals (Counter Cartographies Collective et al., 2012).
